Police on Saturday were investigating attacks against the coaches of first division football club AEZ Zakaki, which could be related to the result of a fixture the previous night.
First an explosive device caused damage to a car used by assistant coach Alexis Garpozis, and then fire was set to a business belonging to coach Demetris Demetriou.
The blast, caused by a cylindrical, factory-made firecracker, was recorded at 5.20am, police said. The explosion caused damage to the windshield.
The vehicle belongs to the Garpozis’ wife, but it was being used by the assistant coach.
At the time of the blast, the car was parked outside their home in Ayios Athanasios.
Shortly afterwards, someone tried to torch a canteen located at a five-a-side football business belonging to the team’s coach. No serious damage was caused.
There have been no reports concerning the possible motives of the attacks but they could be linked to the result of a league fixture on Friday with AEZ drawing 3-3 with Karmiotissa.
AEZ was ahead but was equalized in injury time.
Also in Limassol, a blast caused damage to the front window and the entrance of a hairdressing salon belonging to a 33-year-old man. The attack is not related with the previous two.
Police said it had been caused by a high explosive improvised device placed outside the shop, next to the window.
