
OVER the weekend Limassol plans an array of events on the occasion of Europe Day, which is observed annually on May 9. The celebrations will be held in the Molos seaside park in Limassol on Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8.
The programme which starts at 5pm and finishes at 9pm on Saturday is co-organised by the European Parliament Information Office and the Limassol municipality under the slogan ‘Learn about Europe – experience Europe’.
Embassies of EU Member States and various other organisations will offer information about EU programmes at the venue.
The artistic programme includes hula hoop demonstrations by professionals, songs by the children’s choir of the cultural group ‘Diastasi’ and the Limassol music school “Marios Tokas”, as well as dances by the Lyceum Apostolos Petros and Pavlos dance group, the Bailando salsa school and the bi-communal group ‘Dance for Peace’.
At 7.15pm the project organisers have a surprise for the attendees, with rock songs by Stelios Stylianou, Savvas Isovitis and the band ‘Kyklos’ to follow.
On Sunday, the Limassol municipality, in cooperation with the European Asylum, Immigrations and Integration fund and the Republic of Cyprus offers more celebrations with the motto ‘Our Limassol – one city the whole world’.
The events begin at 5pm on the embankment of the park with the philharmonic orchestras of Limassol and Mesa Geitonia. At 6pm various games, sports and dances will take place, and the programme will continue until 10pm with music and dancing, choruses and songs.
