Restaurant review: Tokio, Limassol

The appeal of Asian cuisine has certainly held strong over the last few years and one of the best options in Limassol to head out for is the Japanese restaurant Tokio.

The restaurant itself is located on the main tourist road and for one who is not overly familiar with Limassol it might need some looking out for. But once found it will not be forgotten. The restaurant is meticulously decorated to infuse every bit of it with elegance but sporting an Asian flair. The pagoda-like architecture of the place only adds to this Asian inspired experience. What is more, the friendly and trained staff leave nothing to be desired.

First and foremost, if the chance arises, the best way to experience Tokio is through its teppanyaki grill table. Pre-booking is required but it is something that needs to be tried as the option of watching your meal being cooked, taking in the wondrous smell of the dish and being simultaneously entertained is something that would attract even the toughest critics.

Nevertheless, the restaurant too had much to offer both on the sushi side and on the main menu. Having the ‘infamy’ of being one of the best sushi places in Limassol, I could not but taste them for my self. There is quite some variety of sushi and sashimi selections and what I must say is that with every bite one thing became abundantly clear – this was some of the freshest sushi I had ever had. A burst of flavour, along with high quality ingredients really did justify the price tag next to each menu option.

The detailed and scrupulous presentation of each dish really did allow us to eat with our eyes before even taking a bite. Another phenomenal dish we tried was the salmon steak. Salmon, a dish that can be undercooked or overcooked quite easily, is not always my first choice in restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised at being served a perfectly seared steak.

To add to all this, Tokio boasts a great cocktail and wine menu that really does complement the whole experience and leave you wanting more.
Tokio is a great place for an intimate dinner or even a larger party and promises that with each meal you are not being served dinner but you are served an experience which with each visit will differ.
