British military bases (SBA) police on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man believed to be the supplier of the methamphetamine that allegedly killed 35-year-old Christos Tsialoupis who died on Sunday after using the drug.
The suspect is expected to appear in the SBA court on Tuesday in order to be handed over to Cypriot police who in turn will present him to Limassol District court in connection with offences involving conspiracy to commit a felony, manslaughter and illegal possession and supply of class A drugs.
Tsialoupis was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at Limassol hospital at around 9.40pm.
An autopsy by coroner Eleni Antoniou found the cause of death to be acute pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs) and samples were taken for toxicological tests.
Following inquiries, police secured testimony that Tsialoupis and his 33-year-old brother went to Trachoni village which straddles the SBA and Limassol district, to meet with the 28-year-old and another person, for whom an arrest warrant is outstanding, where they bought the methamphetamine.
According to witnesses, the 35-year-old lost consciousness immediately after consuming the drug. He was taken home from where an ambulance was called, which ferried him to the hospital.
