A 54-year-old man was remanded in custody for eight days on Thursday on suspicion of trafficking close to 64 kilos of cannabis, found in a warehouse in Limassol the previous day.
The drugs were seized during a large-scale police operation at the Ayios Athanasios industrial estate.
The suspect was present at the warehouse when the police raided the place, acting on a tip-off. Officers found the drugs – 64 airtight packets – hidden in a claw crane arcade game. Sixty-three of the packets contained one kilo each of cannabis while one had 700 grammes.
Police told the court that the drugs had been imported through Limassol port from Thessaloniki, Greece. The recipient is a company whose owner, whom police are seeking, is a friend and associate of the suspect.
Officers also seized a number of computers and documents from the warehouse. The suspect, according to police, admitted importing the drugs on behalf of another individual for €18,000.
The man did not object to his remand but asked to be checked by a doctor due to health problems. His lawyer said he was at the disposal of the police investigators.
Police told the court their investigation will extend to Greece in a bid to find any associates.
