A 69-year-old man died after falling from the roof of his house in the village of Paramythas in Limassol.

Police identified the man as Sotiris Chrysanthou, who seems to have lost his balance while pruning tree branches on Tuesday evening, falling from a height of almost 3m.

A neighbour noticed the accident and the victim was taken by ambulance to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police were informed around 7pm and officers were dispatched to the scene for investigations to rule out the possibility of foul play.

The 69-year-old man had climbed onto the roof to trim tree branches that abutted his home, when under circumstances that are being investigated, he lost his balance and fell to the ground below.

Officers took evidence from the scene, while CCTV footage from a nearby installation is to be examined.

The cause of death is expected to be clarified during the scheduled autopsy.
